US wine shipments up in 2018

Despite fears of an industry slowdown, wine shipments into and within the United States increased by 1.2% in volume last year, continuing a positive trend that began in 1994.

The wine industry sold 405 million cases of domestic and foreign wine last year, according to preliminary data from the consulting firm bw166. This data was released at the Unified Wine and Grape Symposium in Sacramento, a wine trade show in North America, and reported by the North Bay Business Journal.

The value of wine sold increased by 3.7% over 2017, which means that the industry has shifted to higher quality wines, where Napa and Sonoma counties dominate the domestic market.
