Jeb Dunnuck announces he is leaving The Wine Advocate

In an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle, Jeb Dunnuck, wine critic for The Wine Advocate and lead for Rhône, Roussillon and California wines, has announced he is leaving his job.

On July 1, he will launch his own digital publication,, which he intends will have a major focus on California wines, but will also cover Bordeaux, Rhône, Roussillon and Washington wines.

“It hasn’t been an easy decision, but it’s something that’s been on my mind for a few years now,” Dunnuck, who lives in Boulder, Colorado. “I’m excited to move on to the next phase.”

Dunnuck makes a pragmatic analysis of wine criticism: “The single-voice model that was so dominant in the past in wine criticism has faded,” he says. “Everything has moved toward a brand-driven, team-based approach. There aren’t many people out there with a single voice covering multiple regions. I think that’s a shame.”
