Hollywood style in Hong Kong

Four leading women of the international wine business bring a unique global perspective on California to Vinexpo Hong Kong. Debra Meiburg MW is joined by the Chairman of the Institute of Masters of Wine, Sarah Jane Evans MW, along with best-selling author of The Wine Bible, Karen MacNeil, and 30-year veteran of leading wine magazine, Decanter, Sarah Kemp.

They join forces to host two high profile “California STYLE!” events on 25 May. The first event is a breakfast symposium and wine tasting focused on introducing a diverse range of California’s finest wines to the wine industry, media and key influencers, while the second event is focused on sharing their experiences and achievements in the male-dominated wine industry with Hong Kong’s high-achieving female executives via a networking and tasting event held with The Women’s Foundation Hong Kong.
Debra Meiburg MW said “We are thrilled to be working with the California Wine Institute and Visit California on these two blockbuster events, in which we have handpicked the leading voices in international wine – among its most famous female figures – to share some of California’s most special and rare wines with Hong Kong.

“First-up on the 25th, we have a grand breakfast tasting, which is set to be a unique Hollywood-style event, capturing the attention of media, key opinion leaders, trade and influencers in the region. This red carpet, open symposium-style event will see a fun and lively discussion and debate between the three ladies and I on what California and its wine mean to us personally, to the global wine industry, and its current and future place in Hong Kong’s vibrant wine market.”

Linsey Gallagher, Wine Institute Vice President of International Marketing, said “We are so excited to bring this one-of-a-kind gathering of global wine influencers together in Hong Kong.  California wine exports set a record in 2016, topping US$1.6 billion, and Hong Kong is our third largest export market at US$97 million (up 41% from the previous year).  Guests at these unique events will experience the iconic lifestyle and bounty of California, as well as the diversity and high quality of our Golden State’s wine.  We look forward to presenting this very special California experience on the world stage at VINEXPO Hong Kong in May.”

Meiburg continued, “Then on the evening of the 25th, we’ve partnered with The Women’s Foundation to introduce these inspirational global wine personalities to Hong Kong’s equally impressive female executives and members, along with a delegation of visiting CEOs from California. Some exceptional wines will be tasted, but the focus is on bringing this impressive cache of knowledge and experience together in a super-charged networking event held at EY premises.”

Su-Mei Thompson, CEO, The Women’s Foundation said, “We are excited to partner with Meiburg Wine Media and California Wine Institute to spotlight four impressive female role models who have made an indelible mark in the male dominated industry of wine. At TWF, we know that the most successful women are often the most generous about sharing their stories and encouraging others to achieve their goals. We also know women do better with the support of others than they do on their own. We look forward to seeing more and more women champions in this space.”
