Piccini family announces two new wines

With a winemaking tradition dating back to 1882, the Piccini family is among the biggest wine producers in Tuscany. At Vinexpo Bordeaux 2017, Piccini is now planning the introduction of two new wines: a Chianti and an Italian sparkling wine.

The first wine, Mario Primo Chianti, is a tribute to 1930s Chianti style with a modern approach. This wine is a dominant of Sangiovese with two white grapes: the Malvasia and the Tuscan Trebbiano.

‘Don’t imitate tradition as an attempt to honour it. The greatest honour one can give to tradition is to translate that to modern day. It is a tribute to my grandfather, Mario “Primo”, after whom I am proudly named,’ says Mario Piccini, speaking to Vinexpo Newsroom.

Memoro Sparkling Cuvee is the second new wine. This is an Italian sparkling wine with an ABV of 11 per cent, made under the traditional Prosecco Charmet method and an innovative blend of 60% Glera (from Veneto), 25% Vermentino (from Tuscany), 10% Chardonnay (from Sicily) and 5% Passerina (from Marche).

Mario Piccini is the fourth generation to run this distinctive and dynamic Italian wine company. ‘I believe in wines that tell the story of their birthplace,’ he says. ‘Sangiovese and Montalcino, Aglianico and Vulture area in Basilicata, and Nerello Mascalase and Carricante grapes in Etna most certainly do that. I am humbled and proud to contribute to the story of these amazing Italian grapes, these amazing territories, these beautiful wines.’
