Huge hailstorm hits Château Rongzi in Shanxi

Within 20 minutes, a hailstorm hit the vineyard of Château Rongzi, in Shanxi province in China, causing US$2.9 million worth of damage, according Wines Info.

The hail affected 166 hectares of its vineyards and resulted in a 50% loss to the winery’s estimated production.

Located in Xiangning County in Shanxi province, Rongzi was founded in 2007 by Zhang Wenquan, and Jean-Claude Berrouet, former winemaker of Petrus, is consultant.

Its flagship wine, “Etiquette Jaune” (Yellow Label), a Cabernet dominant, costs RMB 1,368 (US$200).
