After a particularly wet El Nino last year, the 2017 vintage of Argentina sounds to be back to dry climate.
If quality seems to be high, the quantity was reduced by spring frosts and hail, notably in Mendoza.
‘2017 is a fantastic harvest in terms of quality’ said Santiago Achaval, winemaker at Matervini.
However, the ripening was stimulated by low yields like in Mendoza province.
In Salta and northern Argentina, yields increased and in Rio Negro and Neuquen (Patagonia region), frost, hot summer, flash floods and hail, recuded the yields by up to 40%.
