Castello di San Donato is an historic estate situated in Perano, which is located in the Chianti Classico region. The 617-acre estate lies 400–600 meters above sea level and features 250 hectares of vines, 52 of which are situated in the Gaiole commune of Chianti Classico.
After the vineyards were held in bankruptcy proceedings in 2014, Frescobaldi began managing the vineyards, and it will take full ownership of the domaine this year. ‘We are very excited by its outstanding potential’, said Lamberto Frescobaldi, president of Frescobaldi. ‘In 2018, we will release the wines from the magnificent 2015 vintage .’
In terms of range, Frescobaldi said, ‘The estate’s flagship wine will be its Grand Selezione, two other Chianti Classico wines will also be produced’.
According to The Drinks Business, the fee was €13 million.
